Herbie, the special needs hedgehog.

Disabled hedgehogHerbie, a special needs hedgehog, has now left wildlife rescue and come to live with me. He will live in the rabbit hutch amongst the trees in the front garden. Last year, Hettie, another special needs hog lived in the hutch for a year before she had a sudden stroke. Hettie suffered from sudden seizures, which meant she couldn’t go back to the wild, so at least she got a little freedom wandering around the hutch with grass under her feet.

Herbie has been in the rescue since Christmas. He was brought in by a guy who stood on him whilst demoloshing the shed he was hibernating in. He sustained injuries to his back legs so now drags them behind him. He has been X rayed and no bones appear to be broken so I’m still hopeful for a recovery….always the optimist me!!!!

If he does recover, he can go back to the wild. If not he can still have a reasonable life in the hutch. I’ll feed him and clean his hutch daily, but he can still forage and hunt for earthworms, spiders and beetles himself. And he can smell the great outdoors and listen to the birds and feel the wind and rain, so not such a bad life! I’ll move the hutch each week so he can have a fresh patch of grass to hunt in.

So….wish him luck guys!!!!
