Off on a jolly

016

The moment has arrived…

047

I now have to trust Laura to look after the dogs, and keep them away from the cat.

Barbara, from next door is on Curly cat duty, and Herbie the hog has been taken to the rescue.

027

I have been patrolling the garden checking fence panels and have, to my utter shame, left Laura a list twenty pages long. The majority of the list relates to the dogs, the rest are instructions for the various appliances in this house, life sure is complicated these days!!

There’s the T.V, cooker, dishwasher, shower, microwave and washing machine to name but a few!

033

The house has been scrubbed from top to bottom, how EXHAUSTING that was! It’s funny when you look at the place through somebody else’s eyes, suddenly almost everything looks a little dusty or grubby. I even cleaned the kitchen windows, when I finished, I was almost blinded by the light coming in!

064

My nerves are jangling…..I know all will be well but this is Laura’s first stint and the imagination can run wild!

010

So…..with my fingers and toes crossed, I’ll be setting off in a few hours….

008

To Pompeii, a place I have always wanted to visit.

So guys and gals, I shall see you all when I return…..until then….xxx

  1. Again, I am reading this post late. So I can only say that I hope your trip was just wonderful. I did love the view of your garden at home. So beautiful. And I can really understand how difficult it is to leave your own little world to others to take care of. Sending you my very best wishes… xxx

    • Snow Bird

Thanks Shimon, it is hard to finally bite the bullet and go, Laura is very competent though, I knew I needn’t worry, but I think it’s hard not too the first time. I’ll be much better next time.xxx

  2. I have read your posts in the wrong order so I know you had a lovely time, you and Hubs look very relaxed and happy on your holiday. Your cherry blossom looks wonderful, holidays are great, but nothing beats coming home. I bet you are happy coming home to see what is out in your garden. And to be with your lovely daughter and animals.

  3. Wow! Everything will be just fine and dandy with doggies and dog sitter…. and you will have a wonderful wonderful time in Pompeii!!! hope everything goes beautifully for you and yours! xxxx

  4. How exciting! I look forward to hearing of your adventures on your return. I am sure everything at home will be just fine. How could they not be when you have cleaned and organized so well! I hope you have a wonderful trip.

  5. How exciting! Have fun!! 🙂

  6. What a wonderful excursion! I laughed at your twenty pages – once you start trying to anticipate every possibility, it does get long and complicated! All will be well. The trick is to prepare as well as you can, and then forget it all once you’re out the door, and give yourself over to enjoying what lies ahead.

    • My list was totally pathetic for sure….its hard to stop once you start….poor Laura, I bet she threw it in the bin! Yes, once all is done its best to relax and trust! Thanks Shoreacres.xxx

  7. Buon’ vacanza. Pompeii e molto interessante. Nearby Herculaneum is worth more than a thought or three. It is, by comparison to Pompeii, very compact. It too, was caught in the volacnic eruption all those centuries ago. You are visiting a beautiful part of Italy. You’ll have to make a return visit to visit other amazing places in Italy.

If you can get your starfish toes and fingers to cross, you will have achieved an amazing feat!

    Have fun… xxx

    P.S don’t forget the camera. 🙂

    • Oh yes…..I think this wonderful part of Italy does need re-visiting, there is so much to see and do!
Lol….I think the starfish is actually trying to cross its toes for me!!! Thanks Menhir!xxx

  8. You will love it along with the whole Bay of Naples and if you get a chance take a bus ride to Amalfi on the Amalfi Coast – about two hours by road and breathtaking scenery for most of the way.
I have been in your situation many times re organising a big house, animals etc…..these days it’s a lot more simple:). The key is to completely let it all go and trust that everything will be fine upon your return
    The garden looks fabulous.
I am off to Portugal tomorrow and will be thinking of you eating wonderful Italian food and drinking lots of local wines. Enjoy xxxxx

    • It certainly is a beautiful part of the country! I totally agree Janet, once we have done all that we can go its best to relax, let go as you say and trust!
I hope you are having a marvelous time in Portugal, happy painting, I shall look forward to hearing all about it!xxx

  9. (Ha…that’s what I get for typing on a tiny device…) Meant to say: Hope the trip is magical, but of course, when you’re with your true love and heading into a dream, it will be! 🙂 Blessings galore, Dina, and then some more.

  10. How splendid the spring gardens look! I’m sure all are in great and loving care. Hope the trip to Pompeii is magical, but

  11. Have a Super Time….Travel safely! Enjoy! All Shall Be Well! Hugs! xxx

  12. Wonderful! Already looking forward to the photos. Great time of year to go! Give my love to Italy *kisses hand*

  13. Have a wonderful time! Your cherry tree blossom is looking wonderful as is the rest of your garden, love your fritillaries!!

  14. I’m sure that everyone , and everything, will be fine whilst you’re away enjoying yourself in sunny Pompeii. Happy holiday! xx

  15. Your garden is looking great – I love your sculptures. Your 20 pages of instructions made me laugh! It’s funny how we get used to things until we’re forced to look through someone else’s eyes isn’t it? I always have a major clean and tidy before our neighbours look after the house when we go away! Enjoy Pompeii and try and see Herculaneum too if you have time – they’re both fantastic. x

    • Thanks Veggie Mummy…..I was horrified by my never ending list, but I seemed powerless to stop!
Oh yes…..a lived in house sure can look grubby when seen through someone else’s eyes….the good thing I suppose is that the house gets a good spring clean!xxx

  16. Have a wonderful trip! I hope you post some pictures!

  17. Wheeeeeee!! How fun. I’m wishing you the best of travels and food and adventure!!!

  18. Have a lovely time. When we went to Pompeii it was a scorching August. Hope that you visited Herculaneum too.

    • Thanks Sue, I’ve heard it gets really hot from May onwards, I’m hopeless in the heat. Herculaneum was certainly an experience.xxx

  19. Ooh. That will be a fantastic trip. I went to Pompeii many years ago and loved it.
I think your garden is looking very springlike. Especially with the cherry blossom. And I really like that photo of Sam sitting among the petals !
Those snakes head fritillaries are gorgeous. Are they in your garden ?
Hope Laura isn’t too overwhelmed with all those instructions. Sounds like she will need a holiday by the time you get back LOL.
Enjoy your hols and look forward to hearing all about it when you get back xxx

    • Thanks Keggs, Pompeii is somewhere I have longed to visit for ages now,
Yes, the snakes head fritillaries are mine, its most odd, I planted these bulbs a few years ago, they were all purple the first year, now a few of them have come up white! I also have fritillaries appearing in plant pots.
Lol….I’m sure Laura was horrified by the list, it’s one of those things, you know your being stupid but it’s impossible to stop!xxx

  20. Have a wonderful time, I’m sure you will.

  21. Have a lovely lovely time. Everything at home will be fine – just go off and enjoy yourself.
p.s. the garden is looking lovely.

  22. Buon viaggio! I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful time and everything will go well.
