A letter for you, Hallie

Hello little one, what a pleasure it is to finally meet you, and see you, sweet Hallie.

Welcome to this big, wild, beautiful world, how you will enjoy exploring it.

Here you are with your mummy shortly after being born.

How lucky you are to have a mummy and daddy who love you so completely, you  truly are a beautiful family. What a wonderful life you will have with your parents.

It took three days and nights for you to come into this world so your parents were very tired and sleepy while they were waiting for you, although they were very excited too.

This was the very first kiss your daddy blew to you, this was just before you were born.

After you were born I walked around my garden and collected all the flowers that were blooming, so you can see them when you are older. Who knows, you may enjoy gardening like your nana one fine day.

What do I wish for you?

A childhood filled with love, laughter, happiness and good health. Scuffed knees, tree climbing, cycling, running with dogs, dancing, singing, hanging out in your dad’s bivvy, painting, gardening, reading, making things…..oh…I could go on forever….so many good things!

When you are a grown woman I wish for you to be strong, kind, compassionate, independent and fulfilled.

Throughout your life I wish for you to be surrounded by family and friends who love you and support you through good days and bad, and for you to be supportive of them.

But for now, sweet, gentle baby girl, all I want is for you to know that I love you unconditionally, and that I will always be here for you, no matter what.

You have such a beautiful soul, how do I know? Because my daughter has one and she is your mother.

I hope you always believe in magic, little one, for the world is a magical place if you choose to see it, always remember to look at the stars.

Explore your creativity and be all that you are meant to be, for you, nobody else.

Always remember that you are connected to this world, and all that inhabits it and that you are made of star dust.

I hope this post is around when you are all grown up, so you can read it. If not, I’ll tell you every time I see you how much I love you. Be happy, grandbaby of mine.

May God bless her little soul with joy and laughter and may she know that He rejoices over her too.

The Lord your God is with you,

    He will take great delight in you;

he will rejoice over you with singing.”

  10. Super letter Super post. Very many congratulations to everyone. You must make a personal copy of your letter to Hallie for when she is older. It is ever so special.

The last time I heard a letter on the the arrival of a child was from a father, a very long time ago – he was good wordsmith too- it made a huge impression on me and I have never forgotten it.

Like you, I am ‘Nana’ too. So many people ask what you might want to be called when a new baby is due in the family. It’s like a “club” with a lot of possibilities, of which, I had no inkling before. It’s interesting what suggestions and reactions you get. I was never truly aware of what the sensations and emotions of being a grandparent would and could be like, much as you don’t find out what parenthood is really like, till it happens.

The wonderment runs through your post. Beautiful and brilliant!

    Again, Congratulations. xxx

    • Ahhh, thanks Menhir. I had no idea what it would feel like being a nana but wow….who knew you could love a grandbaby so much. Beautiful and brilliant? Goodness, thank you. Maybe Hallie is my muse.xxx

  11. Wonderful news, Dina, congratulations all round. Three days, wow, that’s a marathon! I worked for ten years at the Active Birth Centre in North London where women would come for prenatal workshops and yoga classes, and I never tired of seeing the new babies brought back to the centre for us all to see and coo over. It’s a very special time. I wish all of you the very best to enjoy this time and many, many special moments in the years ahead. Caro xxx

    • Thanks Caro. Yes, how I pitied poor daughter, she was utterly exhausted by the time Hallie was born. Ahhhh, how lovely that you got to work with all those babes, it was lovely seeing so many going home from the hospital. We are all besotted with Hallie, it’s just lovely seeing all the little changes that seem to happen daily. xxx

  12. Awww that’s beautiful. Congratulations on the new addition to the family!

  13. A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU AND HUBS, MOM AND DAD…Wow. what a beautiful baby and such a lovely photograph of Mother and Child.

  16. Congratulations. I’d print out your ‘letter’ and stick it in a scrapbook then she can read it in the years to come.

  17. So, so beautiful, Dina. Your words are so heartfelt they brought tears to my eyes. You might even think about printing that photo of the flowers, and framing it for that special day when Hallie’s old enough to see them and know that you picked them just for her. And how wonderful it is that these days the daddys get to be included, too. That’s just as it should be, as they have wonderful love to offer, too. Congratulations!

    • Ahhhh, thanks Linda. I will print the posy picture, who knows, Hallie may be a gardener one fine day, her dad loves gardening too. Yes, lovely seeing dads present at births, it’s such a special moment for them. xxx

  21. Being a Nanna is very special and you will always be a very special person to little Hallie. With you around she will grow up loving and respecting all animals and how could she fail to love gardening when you picked such beautiful flowers the day she was born. Congratulations to you all.

    • Thanks Pauline, I do hope I am special to Hallie. How wonderful it will be if she loves animals and gardening too. She’ll certainly experience plenty of both. xxx
