It has been perishingly cold around these parts, so much so that I invested in a snoodie for hubs and I. Basically, we’re wandering around in huge blankets. The only way to get warm is to get the woodburner running each evening, the central heating barely takes the edge of the cold.
After a dry february we’ve now had endless rain and hail, which is forecast to continue well into April.
Still, the garden is waking up, sweet blooms battle the cold and new leaves are appearing daily.
Birds are singing and the odd blue sky appears after the rain showers.
To my delight, the plum tree that I thought had died, has grown a new branch which is smothered in blossom. This gal has high hopes for plums, sweet and lush, with a little luck.
We rarely get snow around here as we are so close to the coast, so when it was forecast I had my doubts but was hoping to see a flurry or two.
Imagine my surprise when I awoke at four thirty during the night and took a look out of the window. Delightful it was! It didn’t last long and was gone the following day.
And Finally…
It was Littl’urchin’s fourth birthday mid February and as is my custom I picked everything that was blooming in the garden for a posy for her. Happy birthday sweet child.
Until next time, take care guys.xxx
I’m sorry to hear that some shrubs didn’t survive over the Winter, but glad that others are showing signs of new growth. Belated happy birthday to your sweet granddaughter, growing up fast. I’m sure you all have a lot of fun when you get together. Lots of love, Linda.
Thanks Linda. Our climate has well and truly changed for sure, I think a lot of us will have to rethink what we grow.xxx
Hi Dina, Thanks for your latest comment, and although I haven’t read through all your post, it looks cold! I can’t believe Litt’ Urchin is four years old and looks very very sweet!
Thanks Gerrie. Yes, the years sure fly by!xxx
Thankfully it’s got warmer but typically wetter as well. Horpfully it will improve soon.
Good pictures, I do like crocuses. xx
Thanks Flighty. Crocus are always so cheering!xxx
We had snow here too but sadly I missed it as we were away. I can’t believe that Little’urchin is 4; the time has flown! I love your tradition of making her a posy. Fingers crossed for your plum tree, although I shall be very envious if you have a bountiful harvest as the squirrels always eat ours! Here’s to spring! xx
Thanks Veggiemummy. Goodness, lucky squirrels! Don’t the years flash by?xxx
Wow doesn’t time fly by? I am not too hopeful that our plum trees will have much fruit thus year – I hope that I am wrong. we now just need the rain to stop.
It sure does Sue! I have my fingers crossed for a good harvest for you! Thanks Sue.xxx
I cannot believe your grand-daughter is four! She is looking so grown up, such a lovely picture of her. Your have so many lovely plants bursting into life, wonderful photos from your garden including the snow.
I’m always shocked to see how grown up she looks these days, they don’t stay babies for long! Thanks Sustainablemum.xxx
Happy birthday to your lovely granddaughter ! What a gorgeous photo. I love the idea of a special birthday posy. We has snow too but like yours, it didn’t last. That was a nice surprise to find your plum tree has survived. Let’s hope you have some fruit on it this year.
Thanks Keggy, I have my fingers and toes crossed for plums!xxx
You have certainly had it bad up there in the north west, our promised snow just came as rain and it has forgotten to stop! The wind has been icy but at last the temperatures seem to be rising so flowers are opening everywhere. Your snow looks very pretty, I remember years ago when we lived in Ainsdale, that the see froze, it was so cold! Time passes so quickly with little ones, they soon grow up, treasure every moment.
We’ve had our share of rain and gales too, sighs. Goodness, I’ve never heard of the sea freezing! Thanks Pauline.xxx
Awe, what delightful pictures. Lil Urchin, 4? Recount, please!
Recount indeedy! Thanks AnneMarie.xxx
So nice to see the garden waking up and beginning to bloom. Love the posy and the smile on your lovely gran’s face.

Thanks Amalia.xxx
Oh, isn’t it lovely to see the garden coming to life at last. It’s a wonderful time of year when we can think ahead of sunshine and warmer days, winter is coming to an end, though you wouldn’t think it with the wind and snow that we’ve had over the last week or so. Four years, where did that time go? Sending happy birthday wishes to your beautiful granddaughter.
Thanks Jo. Oh yes, it’s always a delight seeing the garden awakening.xxx
Well, now! isn’t this a collection: flowers, snow, and the prettiest little four year old in the world. It’s hard to grasp how four years have passed, but as my great-aunt Rilla would say, “Tempus fidgets!” The flowers are beautiful, but so is the snow, although I hate cold, and there’s little worse than not being able to get warm. I’m not sure what a snoodie is, but it sounds as though it might be related to this fleece ‘thing’ I have that’s step in and zip up. It sure does keep a person warm, but it can be a little awkward to wear. No matter: warm is good, no matter how it’s achieved!
Ha, loving Tempus fidgets! Yes, a snoodie is basically a blanket with a hole for the head! They certanly are awkward but do the trick! Thanks Linda.xxx
Lovely to see pictures of your garden, everything is beginning to bloom well 🙂
Don’t the years go by, amazing that Littl’urchin’s celebrated her fourth birthday recently.
That is a lovely photograph of her and such a colourful posy you made.
Enjoy the remainder of your week and enjoy the weekend, we have a ‘Mother’s Day’ gathering planned which I am looking forward to.
All the best Jan
Thanks Jan. I hope you had a wonderful gathering.xxx
Happy Birthday to your sweet, sweet darling. My goodness, that’s a perfect photo of her and dear Buddy! Aren’t they cute together?!
I can’t imagine gathering such a bouquet in February! It’s a glorious birthday tradition. And your gardens certainly are bursting with new life. All that plus snow? What a great variety of weather you’re having. Gardening in blankets sounds like an adventure, but I am glad your snow came in and out quickly. It’s so beautiful to see.
Sending love for continued greening and joy for you and all your beloveds. 💕
Thanks Kitty. I do love a little snow but wouldn’t like as much as you get. Love and hugs to all.xxx
Hello there Dina and welcome to a wee bit of our Canadian weather ? LOL
You are well ahead of me though when it comes to any blooms .. I have a long way to go yet.
I love the little posy you made for Lil’Urchin .. She will always remember those as she grows up 😉
Take care and stay as warm as possible !
Thanks Joy. Here’s to your spring!xxx
FOUR is amazing for Lil’ Urchin. What a sweet smile. You weren’t kidding about the bursting in the garden. Those images of spring sunlight through blooms (esp the crocuses) are just spectacular.
Can’t imagine such cold that central heating can’t keep up. We’ve had wetter weather than usual and cooler, too, but not the kind that seeps into your bones. Okay, now we need a pic of the two of you in snoodies. Good wishes to you for a plummy season.
Thanks Anne. I’ve never known such a cold winter, unfortunately a photo of us in our snoodies is not a good look!xxx
