Hubs and I took the last week off and spent most of it walking. It was almost a shock seeing the hay and crops being harvested, Autumn sure is creeping up on us.
We’re lucky to have so many country walks, as well as beaches close by, so most days were spent powering the trails. Thankfully, Sam remains well and managed the walks with ease. We have our fingers crossed re his lab results, due to arrive any day soon.
We, well Hubs, also spent part of the week clearing our loft space to make sure the dreaded rodents can’t get back in there. There’s been sight nor sound of the blighters for months now and we’re making sure it stays that way.
Everything was painstakingly removed from the loft and either taken to the tip or cleaned. There was plenty of evidence of their presence up there, yet how they get in is a mystery. Fingers crossed we’ve seen the back of them, I don’t think I could stand having to hide bread in the oven along with fruit each night again!
The horses are still roaming free on the paths to the beach, at one point there were four of them blocking the path which made it a little tricksy trying to navigate a path through them with the dogs. Fortunately, they are friendly little souls who tend to follow you in the hope of receiving a carrot.
The weather has been blowing hot and cold recently, yet not a drop of rain has fallen. Once again the garden is parched and wilting.
Calves of all ages seem to be in these fields. I always find cows to be such curious creatures, they usually come over to check us out, but never when they have calves.
I love it when the only sounds to be heard come from nature.
Today was gloriously warm so hubs, daughter, Littl’urchin and I spent the day on the beach.
We pretty much had it to ourselves. Formby point is such a beautiful spot but you have to climb some large dunes to get there. Our thighs will be screaming tomorrow!
And Finally…
I was asked to review this Coco Grow coir compost. It sounds great, certainly environmentally friendly. I’ll have to wait until spring to see how it performs though. For those interested in finding out more, click on the link. cocoandcoir.com
Until next time, stay safe guys.
Thanks Pauline, Formby beaches are lovely, good to know you have enjoyed them too. Fingers are crossed for Sam, good that he’s back to normal now.xxx
What a lovely week you had! The beach and sandunes at Formby look so inviting, I have walked there many a time, happy memories. Hope the news for Sam is good, never easy waiting.x
Hello there YOU ! .. I have been away for a bit (not literally) just needed time for myself.
I absolutely love your photos this post … the fireplace is perfect this morning since we are in full gray day RAIN mode .. nothing like a cozy fire.
All the scenery is perfect for my heart right now .. I miss the sea so much and looking at your girls at the beach is wonderful.
Hey .. the mum cows tell the little calves not to talk to strangers, that is why they don’t come to you ! LOL .. those good natured horses can’t help but hope for a treat , I bet some one has been doing that for them !
I really hope you don’t have to deal with the attic nasties ? any more .. hiding your food like that is a pain .. let alone the visual thought of those little so and so rodents running around on your things ? ugh !!! So I wish you the best of good luck for that 😉
Take care and stay well and safe !
Oh, you can’t beat a fir on a grey day, we’re having a rainy day today and it’s most welcome as the earth was parched. haha, yes, maybe mummy cows tell their babes to keep away! I’m sure the horses regularly receive treats, they really are sweet horses. I really do hope we manage to keep the rodents out, they drove me absolutely crackers last autumn and winter. Fingers are firmly crossed. Thanks Joy.xxx
You have some lovely walks around where you live, it’s nice that you have both coast and country, the best of both worlds. I’m still keeping my fingers crossed for Sam, the waiting must seem endless.
Thanks Jo. Yes, I’m still waiting for Sam’s results, I’m hoping all is well as he seems fine now.xxx
Broke my rib and nose in a household fall last week, so any springtime walks will be put on hold.Take care up north.
Oh goodness, that sounds a nasty little fall, here’s to a quick recovery. Thanks Peter.xxx
Even with autumn coming on, there are so many flowers around. I especially like the white trumpets in the photo with the black cows; they’re a nice contrast. You have a splendid beach, too. I’d like to walk on that one.
It’s good that your little four-footed visitors seem to have gone elsewhere. But be on watch! Autumn means they’ll be on the look out for cozy winter quarters — better they should find them elsewhere!
The white trumpets are bindweed, they clamber everywhere, I do think they’re pretty though. They were the first flower I ever painted. Yes, we are obsessed with keeping the rodents out this year, they always try to get back in around autumn. Fingers crossed everywhere is sealed up well this year. Thanks Linda.xxx
With country and beach walks like yours, how could you resist? And meeting friendly horses and (sometimes) curious cattle, so lovely.
I am sorry the garden is gasping for rainfall. In SoCal, we are entering Fire Season, so I’m adding to the hand-watering schedule (the standard since our back drip system failed has been once-per-week). Hope you won’t have to haul out the hose too much.
Your girls are looking so well.
Thanks Anne, it is lovely coming across all the animals. There is usually a friendly donkey that enjoys a good ear scratch too. Yikes! Fie season does not sound good, lets hope it’s tempered a little. We have had a lovely rainy day today, soft, steady rain that quenches the parched earth. xxx
I enjoyed your lovely photos…. Autumn must be a lovely time of the year in your part of the year.. glad you could take a week off, a change of scenery is good for everyone.
Enjoy yourself and stay safe.
Thanks Gerrie. I do enjoy walking in the autumn around these parts, it’s such a mellow season isn’t it? xxx
How lovely to spend time walking and enjoying nature.
I enjoyed seeing your photographs.
I certainly hope you have seen the last of your unwelcome visitors.
Enjoy the week ahead.
All the best Jan
Thanks Jan. It is a wonderful change to just spend a week walking. I have everything crossed that I’ve seen the back of the rodents. Enough is enough!xxx
Ah! Beautiful photos and peaceful post. How lovely to have a week of walking and “getting away” from routines. The beach looks sooooo appealing.
I hope, after all that work, you’ll not have unwanted visitors this autumn and winter…yikes.
Peace to your new week as well; hope you (and we) receive some rain soon. 🌧
Xoxo
A week spent walking is peaceful and relaxing and we are lucky to have such beautiful coastline to enjoy too. I have everything crossed that we’ve seen the back of the rodents, they drove me crackers last autumn and winter. As I type we’re enjoying an entire day of wonderful soft rain, the garden is lapping it up, here’s to you getting some asap. Thanks Kitty. Huge love and hugs to you all.xxxx
Walks give opportunities for re-acquainting ourselves with our surroundings. There’s time to see seasonal changes, the different hues, the fruits of all the growth and nature’s preparations for the coming season. Time seems to have telescoped this year.
Sand Dunes are full of rare and curious growth. Then there’s the family fun on the beach.
Pleased to hear Sam is doing what he does. Fingers X’d for good results. Xxxxx
Yes, you just can’t beat a good walk to see what the seasons are doing. Still waiting for Sam’s results, thankfully he’s still well. Thanks Menhir.xxx
I certainly is autumnal – we seem to have been cheated of summer this year.
Our summer hasn’t been too bad, a little on the dry side though. Thanks Sue.xxx
Lovely post and pictures. Good to see that you enjoyed yourselves, and that Sam was okay. That’s my kind of beach, it looks idyllic. xx
Thanks Flighty. We do have some idyllic coastland around here.xxx
Oh, those beach shots with Littl’urchin look idyllic. Well done on all the walking and especially on cleaning out your loft. I feel quite overwhelmed at the thought of tackling ours! We do seem to be descending into autumn. Our walk yesterday, although very hot and sunny, smelt quite autumnal and the crops had been mostly harvested. I’ll be interested to see what you make of the coir compost and here’s hoping that your thighs aren’t too bad today! :O) xx
Clearing a loft is no joke! We wouldn’t have gone for it but had to check there were no holes etc for rodents to get in. Hopefully we’ll have an autumn and winter free of them this year. Good luck tackling your loft! Thanks Veggemummy.xxx
